Scheduled syncing with iSync

I like my cell phone (a Motorola L7) just fine. It’s small-ish, the speaker volume is sufficient, and through iSync, it can keep in touch with my address book and calendar using Bluetooth.
Problem is, I never remember to actually sync the darned thing, so the information on my phone is always hopelessly out of date. […]

Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids went really well

Last Monday, upstairs at the Victory Cafe, I hosted the very first Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids — an evening of childhood poems, schoolwork, and diary readings. I was really worried that nobody would show up, and that I’d have to read from my Grade 1 journal all alone, for an hour.
But that […]

I’ll be on Go this Saturday

I’m on the radio this weekend, joining Go for their Canada Reads spoof called “Canada Skims Magazines.”
I’ll be on a panel with Scott Thompson, Jean Yoon, and Olivia Chow, pitching Lou Lou as the magazine every Canadian should be skimming.
Should be fun.
Saturday morning at 10 on CBC Radio One or listen online.

The Hour Podcast

Scanning through the iTunes podcast directory today, I came across something called The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos Video Podcast.
Now, iTunes doesn’t easily let you see the feed information for podcasts listed in its directory, but if you ping a feed (using its ID from the Music Store URL) like this:
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=215119383
You get:

Apple logo carved into Vista ad

David Topping over at Torontoist has a nice write-up and several photos of the Apple logo carved into a Windows Vista ad I saw last week (image above and on my Flickr):
A little over a week ago, one user of the tribe.ca forums found the word “LINUX” carved out of a huge Vista ad at […]

Straight back to ‘88

Just in time for my poorly named evening of reading (Adults Read Things They Wrote as Kids), a package from my Mom arrived in the mail:

Inside, I found five scribblers.* They were all journals from elementary school at Sackville Centennial. There’s some great stuff inside, and I’m looking forward to reading from these on Monday. […]

Ketchup on your RRSP

This past Friday, after work, I went to the TD Canada Trust to pick up some cash for the weekend. When I looked down, I noticed an unopened bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup on the counter in front of the teller.
Then I looked down the length of the counter. There were bottles of ketchup in […]

Free over-the-air HDTV in Toronto

On the front page of Digg today, a link to Prick Up Your Rabbit Ears. It’s an article from Newsweek about over-the-air HDTV.
When cable TV arrived in the ’70s, rabbit ears seemed destined to go the way of the polyester pantsuit. So, too, the clunky outdoor antenna, a rooftop fixture that once upon a time […]

Filling in on Editor’s Choice again

Angela Misri’s on jury duty for a while, so in her absence, I’m filling in for her on the CBC Editor’s Choice podcast.
You can download individual episodes from the program page, or subscribe to the RSS feed.

“Send him the money. Thank me later.”

They night after I moved to Toronto, my friend Laura took me to Graffiti’s in Kensington to see Kevin Quain play. It was a Monday, I remember. Earlier that evening we watched the sun go down and the city light up from the top deck of a ferry on its way back from Centre Island.
And […]
