Need furniture? Come to Queen and Parliament
Not only is Queen and Parliament the intersection to buy pizza at, but it seems our corner’s concentration of furniture stores is rising.
Arabesque, the carpet store we live above, seems to have closed. The showroom is now full of furniture.
So now, there’s Marty Millionaire, Gen-cor, and this new place, all within spitting distance of each other.
How to download old This American Life episodes as MP3s
Once upon a time, you could download old episodes of This American Life by grabbing MP3 file locations from the M3U files posted on their website. The MP3 files lived here:
http://audio.wbez.org/tal/SHOWNUMBER.mp3
But that stopped working.
And these days, though you can still listen to TAL archives, downloading them has become a bit trickier because the shows are hidden behind a flash player. But, that flash player is still pointing to an actual downloadable MP3, and Christopher Soghoian has figured out where they live:
http://audio.thisamericanlife.org/jomamashouse/ismymamashouse/SHOWNUMBER.mp3
Come on… that directory structure is pretty hilarious.
Replace SHOWNUMBER with the episode number (338 for example), and you’re good to go.
Excellent t-shirts I have recently received as gifts, part 1

Last month, Jenna and I had a big party in her parents backyard to celebrate getting married. My pal Tom was kind enough to bring along his PA system so we could play music outdoors. In order to get everything set up before the party, Tom and his wife Jhoan arrived before all the other guests.
We got the PA set up, cracked open a beer (the keg had not yet been tapped), and Tom said, “We have something for you, and you have to open it now.” Then he handed me a shirt with my wife’s name on the chest.
He claims they didn’t have it made. According to their story, Jhoan just happened to find this shirt as is at Winners one day. How odd. And wonderful.
As we continued to party weeks later in Toronto and Halifax, this shirt became part of my default “OK, I’m done wearing a suit” change of clothes.
Seriously? Would you believe this is off the rack? From Winners, no less?

Pro Tools on Leopard update
I wrote about this a while back, but it seems that Digidesign has finally updated Pro Tools for Leopard:
Digidesign is pleased to announce the availability of Pro Tools® 7.4.2 software, which provides Mac OS X 10.5.3* (Leopard) compatibility to Pro Tools|HD®, Pro Tools LE®, and Pro Tools M-Powered™ users. We’d like to thank our entire community of Mac users for their patience as we worked to bring a fully tested and reliable version of Pro Tools to Apple’s latest platform.
R.I.P. Salt and Vinegar Ruffles
My favourite flavour of potato chip is was Salt and Vinegar Ruffles.
A few months ago, I started noticing that it was becoming increasingly difficult to find them on grocery store shelves. Then new flavours started to appear: Thick Cut Au Gratin and Thick Cut Creamy Dill.
A little web-based research, coupled with my own experience, leads me to believe that Salt and Vinegar Ruffles chips have been discontinued. The official Ruffles website makes no mention of them:
Ruffles® potato chips are available in a variety of mouth-watering flavours to deliver the ultimate flavour experience. Available in BBQ, All Dressed, Sour Cream & Onion, Sour Cream & Bacon, Sour Cream & Cheddar, Lightly Salted, Thick Cut Au Gratin and Thick Cut Creamy Dill flavours!
Isn’t Salt and Vinegar a staple chip flavour? What’s going on here?
I’ll take Salt and Vinegar over Lightly Salted or Creamy Dill any day.
