According to the sign out front, the Canada Post in the Shoppers Drug Mart across the street is set to open today:

Lots of pizza at Queen and Parliament
For some reason, our corner is going crazy for pizza.
Today, I stopped into the soon-to-open Magic Oven at 360 Queen St. East, and talked to the owner, Tony about my little WiFi project. He said they plan to open for tomorrow night, Friday the 20th.
A bit farther west, there seems to be a Domino’s going [...]
Osteria by Terroni on Victoria
Earlier this week, Jenna and I walked by the former Terroni at 106 Victoria, and saw a sign advertising the opening of “Osteria by Terroni.”
“Osteria” is the Italian word for tavern, and according to this thread on Chowhound, it may be a lunch place. When I lived on Victoria, we liked to go to Terroni [...]
Mesh network update
My little Meraki-based public WiFi project has expanded south.
Marty Millionaire on the southwest corner of Queen and Parliament now has a repeater.
If you’re in the neighbourhood, look for SSID Corktown .
Fruity Cheerios & Froot Loops
I’ve posted before about Fruity Cheerios, General Mills’ answer to Froot Loops. Though I’ve not yet done a side-by-side comparison, I presume that the two products are fairly similar.
This morning, during brunch at OK OK, I spotted the two rival products sitting right next to each other. Note that they are the only two cereals [...]
Free Neighbourhood WiFi at Queen and Parliament
Inspired by Peter Rukavina’s experiments with mesh networking, I ordered three Meraki Minis this week, and installed two of them this morning. One sits on a bookshelf in our living room, and the other points north out our back window.
You can see the status of the network, named Corktown, right here online. And if [...]
Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids #3 was fun, packed
I’m a little late posting this, seeing as the event was almost two weeks ago, but I have to say: the third Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids was an awful lot of fun.
It was also well-attended. Some might say a little too well-attended.
Thanks no doubt to some pimping by Torontoist, BlogTO, and Here [...]
The changing face of Queen and Parliament
The intersection of Queen and Parliament — a major intersection in my new neightbourhood — seems to be undergoing a bit of a facelift these day. Part of me wonders if its a bit of the Leslieville revamp creeping east. About two years ago, a Shoppers Drug Mart appeared on the southeast corner:
Right next door [...]
So long 43rd floor
This past Sunday, I finished moving in with Jenna. And at midnight last night, my lease at 210 Victoria expired. There are many things I won’t miss about the Pantages, like the long elevator rides and crusty staff at security.
But boy, I’ll miss the view:
I Believe I Can Rhyme
If you weren’t at the Smiling Buddha Bar this past Thursday, you missed something pretty special. A nice guy named Jay organized an evening called I Believe I Can Rhyme. David Topping over at Torontoist wrote about it, and I showed up at the event expecting a simple screening of Trapped in the Closet. I [...]
