Kingsville Gothic

A few months ago, Jenna and I visited Halifax. We spent a rainy afternoon with the enormously talented Mat Dunlap, and he took a series of engagement photos for us. I’ve posted a few of them in this Flickr set.

My favourite has to be this shot, which once manipulated by Photoshop wizard Mike Zikovitz, turned out beautifully:

Kingsville Gothic

Thanks Mat! Thanks Mike!

    This scares me.
I love the photo…don’t get me wrong.
I was talking about this painting, American Gothic, yesterday.
    Yesterday!
I was telling someone that it amazed me on my first trip to Chicago to walk into the Chicago Institute of Art and two hours later stumbling upon this relic in a room full of “non-famous” pieces of art.

I was blown away at it’s “Pizza Pocket regularity” as it hung with it’s ugly sisters and brothers in a non-descript room.

I like the painting WAY better with you two in it!
    Love you guys.

You guys look like you’re really serious about getting on to eating the world’s biggest salad. Jenna’s like ‘you didn’t even think to bring the dressing did you!?’ and Dan’s like ‘A lifetime of this?’.

Wonderfully clever. A keeper. Also, one that you won’t have to explain context about in 40 years!
