More on “alternative programming”

And, for those Toronto area listeners who are missing their Andy Barrie, Metro Morning is doing a dry run on Monday on CIUT 89.5 FM, and is set to go live Monday to Friday 6:30-8 starting Labour Day.It’s great that these dedicated CBCers want to continue practising their craft and serving the public interest, even as management is disregarding it. But aren’t they concerned that, by doing all this work for nothing (or even less if they have to pay for programming expenses out-of-pocket), they’re showing that CBC can get by with less taxpayer funding?
I’m still scratching my head on this one myself. If we had gone on strike and withdrawn our services it would be one thing but we were locked out. We gave a strike mandate to the union yes but I really don’t think the “take it or leave it” bargaining stance of the CBC can be considered bargaining in good faith and thus the lockout took everyone by surprise. We all gave that mandate expecting a fair set of compromises not a brick wall.
So I hope these broadcasts show the talent and dedication of committed employees who want to serve the listeners and don’t want to see CBC destroyed. People who deserve the right to make a good living with some sense of security. Quite simply it’s what every working Canadian deserves.

I’m not sure where to post this, so I figure here will be as good as any. I host a show on CJAM radio in Windsor. Barring any technical difficulties, I’ve decided to pre-empt my own show and run the Vancouver CBC lockout podcast. It should run 4 - 5 pm today - August 26 on CJAM 91.5 FM. For anyone who hasn’t heard the podcast yet, feel free to tune in.
Of course, if you tune in and hear me babbeling on about something or other instead of the podcast, it means there were likely some technical difficulties - which does happen from time to time….

Canadians really just don’t care that much about the CBC.

For the ten millionth time, this is NOT a strike. It is a lockout. Your comments about obscurity are well noted and should be directed at cbc management. They locked us out.
You may not care about the cbc and you are entitled to your opinion. But millions of Canadians do. They are why are prepared to walk in circles instead of just bailing.

Millions of viewers/listeners of CBC may be an overstatement. Radio maybe. TV? do you really count the sports? All of these sports would be picked up by any private broadcaster. The rest of the crap put on by you guys is paid attention to few canadians.
Hope it rains on the picket lines.
